This week parents if you do not know was Artist in residence week. It was a week of the kids doing a lot of activities that the students otherwise would not be participating in. There was PE overseen by Mr and Mrs Kruse. There was a choir that came in and sang to the kids as well as played instruments. Lots of art projects, that the kids did with the art teacher that came, as well as many fun activities in the classrooms. The kids really seemed to enjoy all of the creativity!
The absolute highlight is Kathy Thayer-Smith, the students music teacher that retired last year, came back and taught each class a song to perform Friday. It was great! The kids were amazing! They sang loud and sounded great! Some classes even performed short Christmas skits while singing. It was so neat to see the kids smiling and having so much fun.
Thank you to Ms. Stephens and those that participated in putting this week together- What a treat for the students and parents! We hope this may continue for next year.

So far, our amazing students (and families of Periwinkle students) have sold a total of 335 Entertainment Books! GREAT JOB. Our goal was a minimum of 200 books to sell and this really exceeds our goal. Online orders have not been added to this yet and there are some last minute orders still flowing in. Can't wait to see the final numbers!

Please bring in all orders into the Cafeteria before school. Prizes will be given out then. Orders will go home that afternoon. **Please note for large orders: You may want to consider pick up your student after school as these books can get heavy.
Clarification:
- Some students have told parents the books are not the "Real" books. Yes these are the real books :)
- If you are not interested in selling or buying the book, no problem. Simply return it to the school by Thursday
- Once all orders are tallied (online orders/ out of town orders and personal orders) We will announce students who have sold over 5 books and they will be entered into a drawing. We will draw out 3 names for two $25 gift certificates and one gift basket.

Great job all- our goal is over 200 books and there are already 10 more already turned in to start this second week- so we have a total of 117 sold currently- Keep sellling those books over the weekend. Next Monday there will be extra turn-in envelopes in the office if you need them for more orders- HOLD ONTO ALL ORDERS UNTIL THURDAY MORNING. Proceeds from the event, in addition to the Penny Drive, allowed PTT to contribute 40 $50.00 gift cards from Fred Meyers to 40 families that could use the extra help this holiday season. The staff and teachers also contribute gift wrapped items for up to 40 of our Periwinkle Families that could use a boost this holiday- in addition to their time to get things delivered! You never know when hard times are going to strike your family. So, thanks again for coming to Bingo night for some fun & for supporting such a wonderful program our school puts on each year. Parents, if you don't know exactly what PTT means or how it impacts Periwinkle- we organize Bingo Nights, the Spring BBQ and Carnival, take care of the annual Cool Pool Trip for All Students, show parents appreciation to the staff on Staff Appreciation Day, help fund the needs in classrooms as available and needed, this year are trying to bring awareness to the Box Tops for Education Program to grow it and show areas in our school it affects, organize your childs Popcorn days for the month. Teachers, Staff and Parents...What a fun event for a great cause! Thank you teachers for getting involved at the fitness fundraiser and making it so much fun for the kids...Bike riding, Roller Blading, Juggling, Hula Hooping, Relays, and so much more- you guys are Great! Several times we heard kids say, "I wish this was everyday!!!"

Parents.....Please remember to send in your pledge forms to the school! The kids did Great and had a fantastic time :)

Welcome to the 2010-2011 School Year! We hope this is a place that you can find how and when you can get involved in your child's school. We know there are a lot of working parents out there who would like to volunteer, but work schedules do not always allow you to. So, we would love to provide the information to you, so when the time is right, and you are interested in volunteering, you know where to go. We are here to help and make our school great for our kids!

Christa Ames and Kim Hiatt are your 2010-2011 PTT Presidents. Shane Jones is your Vice President. Carol Cleary is your Treasurer and Michelle Eade is your Secretary. Karyn Costello is also very involved in Volunteer Coordinating for the PTT among other things. She can always use a hand, as there is much to do throughout the year! We would love to hear from you, so if you see us in the halls or at an event, feel free to approach us with you comments or concerns. You are also welcome to attend an upcoming PTT meeting also. We have a comment box for anything we do not get covered during the meeting. We are open to new ideas and also to improving those that are working to make our school the best it can be.

Also, please save ALL Box Tops for Education (these are money for school events and activities, and at $.10 each, that will add up fast if everyone is pitching in!!!). An elementary school in Ohio earned $50,500 for their school last school year- YES I SAID FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS!!! Very Amazing, we can earn for our school as well. We will be sending home collection sheets to put on your refrigerator to collect them on. Once full, send back to your childs classroom or drop at the office. An easy way to remember to save these is to cut off the ones you have right now and also when you get home from grocery store.
